The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) has been the subject of serious policy debate for several years. The 2008 storm season graphically exposed the needs of the Texas catastrophe financial structure, the Texas insurance marketplace, and our state’s broader economy.
During the 2009 Legislative Session, TWIA funding reform was designated an “emergency item” by Governor Rick Perry.
Though action was taken on the last day of the 2009 legislative session, long-term policy changes are still required. Stay tuned for more updates on this important policy issue.
