"Why
no action to help drivers?"
Brownsville Herald
June 26, 2003
Editor:
Please, will someone, anyone, explain to me why the Honorables(?)
we have elected to go to Austin to act on our behalf neglect
and refuse to address the issue of uninsured drivers and do not
protect us.
Statistics show that in the Lower Rio Grande Valley half of the
drivers on the road do not have insurance. That means that 1 in
2 do not have insurance.
Who is protecting those of us who obey the law and have insurance?
Do you honestly think that those you voted for and are in Austin
are not aware of this? Why then do they neglect their responsibility
and do nothing?
Could it be quid pro quo? It is my opinion that legislators will
not address this issue simply because there is nothing in it for
them, perhaps only for the voters of the uninsured.
People, statistics prove that since half the drivers do not have
liability insurance, you will be victim to one of them. I hope
those victims will be some of the legislators you send to Austin,
and not you.
A recent Herald carried an article of an accident between a school
bus and an uninsured driver. Just one of those 50 percent uninsured.
A school bus, mind you. And that driver says he worries about the
children, but he breaks the law.
If there are
any out there who want to do something about this issue, please
get in
touch with me and let’s get organize
to get rid of those in Austin who refuse to give us protection,
and the judges who also refuse to enforce the law and whose only
excuse is, “pobrecito” and for the votes it brings.
Yes, I am angry, the victim twice of uninsured drivers, as you
are bound to be unless something is done.
