TCAIS Realtor
Brochure
Your client has found the house of her dreams. But
she’s worried about finding insurance. Not to worry -- Texas
has dozens of insurance companies that can insure her new home.
The question is: Where to start?
Now
to find them...
Your
client wants
to insure their new home-to-be using their current homeowners
insurance company.
|
1. Ask
the client whether their current insurer will extend coverage
to the new house. Be sure to tell them to contact their insurer
about the move.
2. Ask
the client whether they know of any credit issues -- such
as missed payments or heavy debt load -- to help avoid unpleasant
surprises. The client can contact any of the credit agencies
to contest errors.
3. Make
sure the client is aware of what their insurance will cover
and whether less expensive or more comprehensive options are
available. |
Your
client has chosen a home, but has not chosen a homeowners
insurance provider.
|
To
order a copy of a
home’s CLUE report for $8, the
homeowner can call ChoicePoint at 1-866-527-2600. You
can also visit Choice
Trust for more info. |
1. Check
the seller’s Comprehensive Loss and Underwriting Exchange
(CLUE) report, which tracks claims information over the past
three years. The home might have a loss history that makes
it difficult to insure.
2. Suggest
to your client that they check
www.HelpInsure.com
to see which companies are writing new policies.
3. Look
into TDI’s Market Assistance Program (MAP) at 1-888-799-6277,
which helps consumers find homeowners insurance.
4. Have
your client contact insurance companies directly to discuss
coverage options, or look up independent agents -- who often
represent several insurers -- in your area. |
| Despite
your best efforts, your client can’t find a company to
insure their new home. |
1. Write
down the details and call the Texas Department of Insurance
at 1-800-252-3439. The more details you can provide, the more
TDI can help.
2. Be
sure to collect the following information before contacting
TDI:
- why
the home is being denied;
- location
and condition of the home;
- type
of plumbing used in the home,
such as copper or PVC; and
- maintenance
records from the
current or previous homeowner.
